Meet Jukka – a generalist and a Bali lover

How is it going? 

It’s going actually awesomely! I’m totally a sunshine and a Summer person, so I am really enjoying seeing the Spring starting to flourish and people smiling a bit more. All in all, I’m really feeling a positive vibe and buzz everywhere. 

What has been on your mind lately? 

Understanding people and self-educating. I’ve found a new passion for consuming information and educating myself. I think people have a tendency to stick by what they know and start repeating themselves over and over again, whether it’s in their personal or professional life. At least I found myself doing that, so I wanted to make a change. 

What has been the most recent change in you? 

Like I mentioned earlier, it’s maybe something to do with educating myself. I think for a while I was stagnant with my own ways and the knowledge I had. Now that I’ve been putting in time to read more, learn new things and thinking differently, I think it has opened my mind to new things and definitely also benefitted me in the client work we do here at McCann.  

What book and podcast would you recommend to someone? 

I think “Everyone Hates Marketers” by Louis Grenier is a pretty good podcast for both experienced marketers as well as for people getting into the industry.  

For reading and learning I really would recommend Harvard Business Review books and the magazine. At least for me, the articles there always spark inspiration and I learn something new on every read. 

What is your favourite place in the whole world? 

Hmm… my girlfriend would kill me if I wouldn’t answer next to her, but then again Bali was awesome and I was there with my girlfriend couple of years ago, so let’s say a sunbed in Bali next to my girlfriend 🙂

Whats the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week? 

I was reading Sunil Gupta’s “Driving Digital Strategy: A Guide to Reimagining Your Business” which was really interesting. 

What would you like remembered about you? 

First and foremost, that I was a kind and fair person. Professionally I do have a lot of inspirations that I have listed for myself. Funny thing is that the work I do rarely hits the press or award shows. Getting respected and being remembered as a top professional on what I do among my peers is enough for me. 

What is your motto? 

“Each day, every minute you become better and better.” When I was 18, someone at my first sales job said that to me, and one wild night, I ended up tattooing that to my hand in hebrew. So…. Yeah… Guess I have to go with that. 😀 

What do you like about your job? 

I love that my job at the moment caters perfectly to my personality. On one hand, I love being around people, so my work with our account team and workshopping with clients is something I enjoy enormously. On the other hand, I have a bit more analytical, strategic and quiet side, which really enjoys analysing data and research as well as building strategies for our clients. 

 

What do you think is the most interesting thing happening in our field now? 

Companies shifting to data-driven marketing, and finally confessing that they need to learn more about their own clients to be able to serve them better.  

Digital age has left everyone confused on what to do with all the data that they have. There was a period when companies were just collecting Big Data and customer information, just to find themselves lost in numbers and information that they don’t understand. Slowly companies are starting to understand that they need to combine the qualitative and quantitative data in order to be able to be successful when it comes to marketing.
